Approximately 1 in every 100 people worldwide is diagnosed with ASD – Autism Spectrum Disorder – and around 2% of children and young people aged between 5 and 18 in Europe are affected (WHO, 2023). Theatre can be a powerful tool for neurodivergent young people, offering a structured and safe environment in which to develop skills such as emotional recognition, non-verbal communication and social interaction.
The objectives of this project are:
- Training for professionals working with young people: To train professionals using improvisational theatre methods to develop social skills.
- Theatre toolkit: To develop a structured toolkit for young people with ASD, focused on self-expression and self-confidence.
- Inclusive environments: To develop specialist skills to create supportive spaces for neurodivergent young people.
- Social integration: To prepare young people with autism for meaningful engagement beyond structured programmes.
- Community inclusion: Highlighting neurodivergent talent through performances, with a view to promoting broader understanding.

- For young learners: Toolkit to empower young people with ASD; Theatre Performance Sessions.
- For professionals:
Development of a training programme & facilitator’s handbook for youth workers. - Report with key findings.
